Grady Keeps NICU Babies and Parents Connected With New Live Webcam

Grady Health System is making it easy for premature infants and their parents to stay connected as they are cared for in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The hospital just launched NicView, a video streaming system which allows families to access live video of their babies 24 hours a day. Grady is the first hospital in the city of Atlanta to offer this service.

A small, unobtrusive camera is placed next to a baby’s bed and offers a view of the baby’s face. Parents receive unique and secure log-in credentials, along with passwords they can share with other family members. The live video is available on any internet-ready device, like smartphones and tablets.

“Parents can’t always spend as much time as they would like with their babies. This system makes it possible for them to see their little ones anytime they like, from wherever they may be. The NicView system is just one of many family-friendly enhancements at Grady’s newly renovated Women’s Center,” said Linda Wildey, Executive Director, Women’s Services.

For Tasha Banks, who gave birth at Grady to daughter Zoe at 26 weeks, time away from her baby has become much more bearable. She was one of the first parents to use the new NicView system.

“It’s very comforting to be able to see your baby when you’re not in the NICU. To be able to access the live stream from anywhere, to see she’s okay and active, it’s a kind of relief to be close to her all the time,” said Banks.

Grady’s Women’s Center incorporates the latest technologies and best practices in a welcoming environment for mothers, babies and their families, including modern labor and delivery suites. A designated Baby-Friendly hospital by Baby Friendly USA, Grady is also the largest Regional Perinatal Center in Georgia, offering specialized care for high risk mothers.
