School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Why Choose General Sonography?
The School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography at Grady Health System has been training exceptional general sonographers since 1991. Sonographers use sound waves to produce images of the human body. Our general sonography students graduate with entry level sonography skills in Abdomen and OB/GYN. General sonographers are in high demand in hospitals, outpatient centers and other settings.
Our General Sonography program awards a certificate from Grady Health System upon graduation. Students who complete our program are qualified to become certified diagnostic medical sonographers through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). If our students are interested in pursuing a higher-level degree, we have entered into a partnership with Saint Joseph’s College of Maine that allows our graduates to earn an online BS in Health Administration.
Since our General Sonography program is CAAHEP accredited, our students may sit for the ARDMS Sonography Physics and Instrumentation, OB/GYN, and Abdomen – Extended (ARDMS) specialty exams before graduation. This opportunity gives our students the ability to graduate as registered sonographers with the credential of RDMS.
Classes are limited in size. The number of students accepted is dependent on the availability of clinical sites. Our general sonography students rotate at multiple affiliate clinical sites and hospitals throughout metro Atlanta.
The School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography-General Concentration is:
