Robert C. Amajoyi, MD

Robert Amajoyi, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained colorectal surgeon with over a decade of experience providing evidence-based colorectal surgical care. He is an associate professor of surgery at Morehouse School of Medicine. He serves as the division chief of colon and rectal surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Prior to moving his family to Atlanta, he served as the founder and director of the Rectal Cancer Program at Saint Luke’s Cancer Institute in Kansas City, Missouri for six years. While in Kansas City, Dr. Amajoyi earned the Castle Connolly Top Colorectal Surgeon Award in 2024.

He provides holistic surgical care with a focus on Robotic surgical treatment of Rectal cancer, Colon cancer, complicated sigmoid diverticulitis, rectal prolapse, surgery for Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, J-pouch surgery, re-do rectal surgery, and re-operative abdominal and pelvic surgery. In addition, he provides treatment for hemorrhoids, anal pain, anal fissure, other anorectal diseases, pilonidal disease, and screening for anal dysplasia.

An active participant in research and advancing colorectal surgery, Dr. Amajoyi has authored many articles, book chapters, abstracts, and reviews. He has presented scientific talks at local, national, and international meetings.

He is the vice president of the International College of Surgeons US section where he serves as the Colon & Rectal Surgery specialty chair. In this role, he helps improve his colleagues’ understanding of complex colorectal surgeries, effect change through mentorship, and designs colorectal surgery lectureships and symposia worldwide.

His clinical interests include robotic and minimally invasive rectal cancer surgery, multidisciplinary rectal cancer care, colon cancer surgery, organ-preserving transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS), multi-visceral pelvic organ resection surgery, surgical management of Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, and providing care to the underserved.

With 10 years of experience in anal dysplasia screening and treatment, Dr Amajoyi has been a dedicated member of the International Anal Neoplasia Society (IANS) for the past decade. Additionally, He actively contributes as a member of the implementation committee, demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing clinical practices and improving patient outcomes in this specialized field.

Dr. Amajoyi and his team are looking forward to being the standard bearer of quality, enhancing patient experience and expanding access to quality colorectal care for Atlanta. When he is not performing surgery, mentoring and coaching others, volunteering or traveling, Dr. Amajoyi can be found spending time with his family on the soccer field.
