Dr. Thomas M. Large, MD

Dr. Thomas “Tom” Large, MD, is an orthopedic trauma surgeon at Grady Memorial Hospital, Emory University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Originally from Indiana, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Duke University, and then Alpha Omega Alpha from Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

A decorated military veteran, Dr. Thomas M. Large has also won several professional teaching and research awards and is an active international volunteer surgeon. He regularly lectures nationally and internationally on orthopedic trauma surgery and reviews four orthopedic surgery journals. Before joining Emory/Grady, Dr. Large worked at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC for nine years, completed two tours of duty in Bagram, Afghanistan, and was chief of orthopedic surgery at Travis Air Force Base in California. He completed prestigious trauma fellowships in Germany and Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and was the third orthopedic surgeon for a population of 3 million at Bedford Orthopedic Hospital in Mthatha, South Africa.

His specialties include trauma/fractures of the extremities and pelvis, arthroscopic knee ligament surgery, and deformity/reconstructive surgery. Dr. Large strives to provide relaxed and compassionate care, information tailored to your needs and injury, and, if needed, technically outstanding surgery to maximize your potential for an excellent outcome.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and three children.
