Jaffar Khan is a board certified Neurologist with added certifications in Vascular Neurology, Electrodiagnostic Medicine and Clinical Neurophysiology. He completed his Neurology residency in 1997 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. During his last year in training, he served as the Chief Resident. He completed a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at Emory University, and joined the Emory University SOM faculty in 1998. He is Professor of Neurology, Vice-Chair for Education and Assistant Dean for Medical Education. Dr. Khan is a hands-on teacher who for nearly 20 years has supervised medical students, residents and other trainees in the classroom and during their rotations on the inpatient, consult, and outpatient services at Grady Hospital. He established leadership roles in post-graduate medical education and became Director of the neurology residency and CNP fellowship training programs. His role expanded to the Vice Chair of Neurologic Education in our Department of Neurology. Since his appointment to this vital position Dr. Khan assumed responsibility for the direction of medical student education in the neurosciences. His success as a clinician educator is exemplified by his receipt of multiple institutional and national teaching awards at the UME and GME levels. Dr. Khan is an individual who has dedicated himself to neurology education and to contributing to the education of future generations of neurologists and other health professionals. As an education director he is an outstanding mentor, advocate, and teacher. His dedication, creativity, innovation and energy represent the epitome of excellence of medical education within Neurology.
