Following completion of my residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA, I joined the faculty at Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA. In 1981 I was appointed Division Director or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Columbia University College of Dentistry and Director of the Presbyterian Hospital Dental Service in New York. During my twenty three years at Columbia, I was appointed as the Georg Guttman Professor of Craniofacial Surgery and developed a combined MD oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training program. In 2001 I was appointed as Director of Graduate Medical Education for New York Presbyterian Hospital. In 2004 I joined the faculty at Emory. In addition to my interest in education, since 1991, I have organized international surgical missions performing surgical repair of cleft lip/palate deformities. I am married to Blythe Randolph who is on the Board of Lifeline Animal Project.
