Dr. Doran is the Emory Chief of Renal Services at Grady Memorial Hospital and has been caring for patients at Grady, in various capacities, for 25 years. He is a general nephrologist who specializes in patients with all types of kidney diseases and disorders and those receiving dialysis. This includes conditions such as diabetic kidney disease, hypertension, fluid and electrolyte disorders, nephritis, kidney stones, and post kidney transplant care.
He is an attending physician on the inpatient wards on the Renal Consult Service where he supervises renal fellows, internal medicine residents and medical and physician assistant students. He is also the Director and supervising physician in the Grady Medical Subspecialty Chronic Kidney Disease Clinic.
Dr. Doran is involved in clinical research projects based at Grady Memorial Hospital in conjunction with the Grady Pharmacy and Drug Information Residency Program. He also teaches and supervises the renal fellows on their renal ultrasonography rotation when they learn to perform and interpret diagnostic studies.
Dr. Doran is from northeastern Pennsylvania and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Scranton. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington DC. He completed the remainder of his medical training at Emory University School of Medicine including Internal Medicine residency and clinical and research fellowships in Nephrology. In 1999 he joined the faculty in the Renal Division of Emory University School of Medicine. He is a member of the National Kidney Foundation and the American Society of Nephrology.
