Dr. Carney grew up in Peachtree City, Georgia. After earning his bachelor’s degree, he joined the United States Border Patrol in Arizona. Following his time in Arizona, he decided to pursue his dream to be in medicine. He received his medical degree from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his residency in advanced reconstructive foot and ankle surgery at Emory University, where he served as chief resident. Throughout school and residency, he served as the president of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, the lead in several research projects, lectured at national events, and dedicated to teaching. In 2024 he joined the team at Grady Memorial Hospital in affiliation with Emory University to continue his growth as a physician. His areas of particular interest include: foot and ankle reconstruction, bunion and hammertoe correction, tendon and ligament injuries, foot and ankle sports injuries, and foot and ankle fracture and trauma care.
