Internships

Internships are provided at the pleasure and discretion of the Grady Health System. Internships are limited and prioritized by program need. The RN and LPN programs receive first priority in patient care areas. Internships are typically provided for students of schools that have an established Affiliation Agreement with Grady. Internships are typically awarded to groups of students rather than a single student. Internships are educational opportunities. Students do not receive a salary or any other employee compensation or benefit during the internship.

Schools of Radiation and Imaging Technologies

The Schools of Radiation and Imaging Technologies, sponsored by Grady Health System, include the Schools of Radiologic Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Radiation Therapy. The programs prepare graduates for rewarding careers and job satisfaction in the health care profession.

The Schools of Radiation and Imaging Technologies are full-time programs, maximum 40-hours a week, consisting of classroom education in conjunction with clinical education. Classroom education enables students to acquire knowledge that will be applied in the clinical environment. Evening classes are not available. The clinical portion of the program enables students to develop the necessary skills to perform imaging or treatment procedures. The schools are competency-based programs.

Pharmacy Residency Program

Pharmacy residency training was established in 1996 with all residency programs consisting of a minimum of 2080 hours of training and experience under the preceptorship of full-time, Grady-employed clinical pharmacists.

All members of the clinical staff have a minimum of one-year of residency training from an accredited program; many have two or more years of training post-doctorate. Residents participate in a 24-hour, on-call program unique to only a few programs nationally. In this capacity, they are responsible for addressing drug information questions, responding to pharmacokinetic consults, evaluating low molecular weight heparin bridging consults and participating as a member of the Code Blue response team. All residencies conform to the standards of the ASHP Residency Learning System Model with regard to goals and objectives and evaluations. Residents are required to have Georgia licensure early in the residency year.
